From Nothingness to Life: The Beginning of the Journey
In the beginning, we were dead, and God gave us life. The Qur’an highlights our journey in life with this verse: {How can you disbelieve in Allah, seeing that you were dead and He gave you life. Then He will cause you to die, then He will bring you back to life, and then unto Him you will return.} [Al-Baqarah: 28]. We came into this world from nothingness, from nonexistence, but through His mercy, God revived our souls and will resurrect us after death for the Day of Judgment, from which no one can escape.
A Great Trust: Man’s Choice and Life’s Test
But why are we here? Why did we choose to take on the test of life? The answer to this profound question lies in the verse from Surah Al-Ahzab: {Indeed, We offered the Trust to the heavens and the earth and the mountains, but they refused to bear it and feared it; but man undertook to bear it. Indeed, he was unjust and ignorant.} [Al-Ahzab: 72]. The heavens, the earth, and the mountains could not dare to accept this trust, overwhelmed by its difficulty and weight, but man accepted this challenge. We chose to be in this world and to bear this responsibility with our own free will.
The Great Witnessing: When We Bore Witness Against Ourselves
Our choice was not a mere coincidence or random act. Rather, God made us witness a significant moment in human history: {And [mention] when your Lord took from the children of Adam – from their loins – their descendants and made them testify of themselves, [saying to them], “Am I not your Lord?” They said, “Yes, we have testified.”} [Al-A’raf: 172]. We bore witness that God is our Lord and that we shall not forget this covenant on the Day of Judgment. This testimony is not just a passing word but an intrinsic recognition deeply embedded within every human being, a natural instinct leading us toward the truth.
The Pure Fitrah and the River Lethe: From Myths to Realities
If we examine some ancient myths, such as the Greek myth of the “River Lethe,” we find a remarkable similarity to this natural instinct. The myth describes how souls would drink from the River Lethe before entering the world, causing them to forget everything about their previous lives. But in Islam, God placed within our hearts a memory of our encounter with Him, a memory that acts as a compass guiding us towards the truth.
The Qur’an: The Guide and Navigator on This Journey
God did not leave us to wander in the darkness of life without guidance. The Qur’an is the final divine book, which came to be a light guiding us through this difficult test. It is the manual that shows us the path to success, leading us to the paradise that God has promised. Ultimately, God created us with great wisdom, instilled in us the natural instinct to seek the truth, and provided us with the Qur’an as a guide to success and the attainment of paradise.
Conclusion: The Purpose of Our Creation
In conclusion, God did not create us in vain. He created us for a noble purpose and placed within our hearts the innate drive to seek the truth. We are responsible for our choices in this life, and the Qur’an is our guide to finding the right path. For it leads us to success in the ultimate test and to the paradise promised by God to the believers.
